Associate Professor Ross G. Menzies has been providing CBT for depression and the mood disorders in the inner-west of Sydney for over 15 years.
Professor Menzies completed his B.Sc (Psych), M.Psychol (both with first class honours), then a PhD in clinical psychology at the University of NSW. He is currently Associate Professor of Psychology in the School of Behavioural and Community Health Sciences at the University of Sydney. He was the Head of Department between 1999 and 2004, and Pro-Dean of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney for three terms.
Professor Menzies is a past member of the Mood Disorders Research Centre Advisory Committee at Prince of Wales Hospital. In 2002, he was appointed the overseas expert trainer in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). This position involved regular visits to NUS to provide expert training in the management of mood and emotion. Professor Menzies holds several other honorary appointments, including Honorary Associate of the Department of Medical Psychology at Westmead Hospital, and Honorary Associate of the Sydney Clinic. He is the Senior Clinical Supervisor for psychologists in the Adult Mental Health Team and the Child, Youth and Family Team in the Division of Mental Health at St George Hospital. He is the Clinical Director of Anxpsych, an organisation bringing mood management skills to the corporate sector. He is the Head and Director of the Stress Research Group at the University of Sydney. He is the NSWPresident, and past National President, of the Australian Association for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (AACBT). He is the Convenor of the 29th National Conference of the AACBT in Sydney in 2006, and the editor of Australia’s national CBT scientific journal, Behaviour Change.
Professor Menzies is an active researcher with numerous national competitive grants and over 100 international journal manuscripts, books and book chapters. He is regularly invited to speak at conferences and leading universities and institutions around the world. His training workshops on Advanced Cognitive Therapy for psychologists, psychiatrists and allied health professionals have been the biggest CBT workshops ever run in Australia. Professor Menzies continues to attract patients from across metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW, interstate and from overseas, with many individuals travelling thousands of kilometres to receive treatment at his private practice.
